EMPIRE WIND 1/CP2

Project Description

The Empire Wind 1 / CP2 Project, executed by Worley Parsons India for British Petroleum (BP), forms part of BP’s offshore wind energy development initiative in the North Sea, supporting the transition to clean and sustainable power generation.

The project scope encompassed the engineering design and detailing of the 230kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building, reactor platform, and associated equipment foundations for the onshore substation facilities. These structures are critical to the power transmission system, enabling efficient collection and export of electricity generated from the offshore wind farm to the mainland grid.

Key engineering deliverables included:

  • Architectural and structural design of the 230kV GIS building to house high-voltage switchgear and control systems.

  • Structural analysis and foundation design for heavy electrical equipment and reactors.

  • Reactor platform design optimized for load distribution, safety, and accessibility.

  • Preparation of general arrangement (GA) drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, and construction documentation compliant with European and BP engineering standards.

The project emphasized precision, safety, and sustainability, integrating advanced 3D modeling and design coordination to ensure constructability, operational efficiency, and alignment with BP’s global commitment to renewable energy excellence.
