Project Desciption

The Unit 1018, DCU Project, executed by Worley Parsons India for BP Products North America (Whiting Business Unit), involved comprehensive engineering, design, and modification works to upgrade the existing Delayed Coker Unit (DCU) facilities.

The project’s primary scope included the extension of existing piperack structures, modification of existing process and access platforms, and the design and installation of new pipe support systems to accommodate additional process lines and utilities.

Engineering deliverables encompassed detailed structural analysis, 3D modeling, and design optimization to ensure seamless integration with the existing plant infrastructure while maintaining BP’s stringent safety, reliability, and constructability standards.

Key aspects of the work included:

• Structural reinforcement and load redistribution for extended piperack sections.

• Redesign and modification of access platforms to enhance operability and maintenance access.

• Design and detailing of new pipe supports, foundations, and anchor points in line with ASME and BP design codes.

• Preparation of fabrication drawings, erection details, and as-built documentation.

The project successfully achieved its objectives of structural integrity enhancement, operational efficiency, and minimal plant downtime, contributing to BP’s ongoing reliability improvement and modernization efforts at the Whiting Refinery.
